KPE Science Café: Nourish and Move

On November 18, 2024, the Faculty hosted a discussion on research and strategies to enhance cancer care through diet and exercise as part of KPE's Science Café series.

The panelists discussed practical strategies for integrating healthy eating habits and physical activity into cancer treatment plans, explored common misconceptions and highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to care.

Panelists

  • Linda Trinh is an associate professor in U of T's Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE). Her research agenda is focused on the development of evidence-based and theoretically-driven physical activity and sedentary behaviour interventions for cancer control and survivorship. 
  • Daniel Santa Mina is an associate professor in U of T's Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, cross-appointed to the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Surgery. His research interests include exercise oncology, and the effects of prehabilitation, rehabilitation and exercise in various clinical populations. 
  • Amy Kirkham is an assistant professor at KPE. Her research uses advanced imaging and lifestyle interventions to understand, treat, and improve the health of women with or at risk for cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
  • Catherine Sabiston is a professor at KPE and a Canada Research Chair in Physical Activity and Mental Health. She is an international leader in sport and exercise psychology research, with a specific enduring interest in girls’ and women's sport, exercise, and health.
