Requirements and Application Procedures

Students interested in applying to the Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) program must meet certain requirements. An overview of our admission requirements is found below. Additional information can be found on the University of Toronto’s Future Students website.

 


Ontario High School Admission Requirements

Prerequisites

Students applying to the BKin program from an Ontario high school must have six Grade 12 4U/M courses or their equivalent. These must include:
• English
• Advanced Functions or Calculus and Vectors
One of: Biology/Physics/Chemistry
• Strongly recommended: Introduction to Kinesiology/Exercise Science
• Recommended: Biology and/or Physics – (Note: Chemistry is strongly recommended for candidates wanting to pursue multiple courses in university level Biology).

Transfer Admission Requirements

Students enrolled in other degree programs at the University of Toronto or external universities may apply for transfer to the BKin degree program.

Spaces for transfer students are limited and competition is high. All transfer applicants must meet the published program prerequisites. High school grades in the A range, and a university GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is recommended to be competitive. Transfer students who are on probation or suspension in their current program are not eligible for admission.


Admission requirements for transfer students depend on where you went to school and your level of education. Visit the University of Toronto’s Future Students website and use the dropdown menus to find the option that represents you best and get pertinent admission requirements for your situation. Special and Visiting Students (Non-Degree) Admission Requirements

Special/Visiting students are individuals living in North America who wish to take courses offered by the program, for interest or for transfer credit. Students in this category must meet the admission criteria for the program. 

Please note:

  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended are required, except for transcripts from the University of Toronto.
  • Visiting students enrolled at other universities must also include a letter of permission from their home institution.
  • Visiting students must be in good standing at their home university.
  • Applicants not previously admitted to the Faculty must submit a complete application, relevant documents and a $90 fee directly to the Faculty.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended are required, except for transcripts from the University of Toronto.
  • Graduates of Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education programs may be readmitted for further undergraduate study upon presentation of a letter to the Admissions Committee outlining the reasons they would like to return. The re-registration fee for returning students is $60. This fee is waived for KPE students who graduated within the last twelve months.

Types of Applications & Associated Fees

  • This application is for non - U of T KPE students who would like to take a course from a Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education program and have never submitted this type of request before.
    • Application fee is $90.
  • This application is for non - U of T KPE students who would like to take a course from a Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education program and have submitted this type of request before.
    • Application fee is $60.
  • Graduates of a U of T Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education program would also fall under this type of application.
    • Application fee for a graduate of our program within the last twelve months is $0.
    • Application fee for a graduate of our program longer than twelve months ago is $60.

Application Deadlines for Special and Visiting Students

  • April 1: Summer Admission
  • June 30: September admission
  • November 30: January admission

All completed forms should be emailed to undergrad.kpe@utoronto.ca. Please do not fax or mail forms.


Auditing Courses

Individuals may want to audit a course for self-enrichment or academic exploration reasons. Auditing a course involves attending lectures and taking part in discussions without seeking credit or a grade for the course.  An auditor does not submit assignments or write examinations or tests. 

Permission must be granted to audit a course and a fee may apply. If you’re interested in auditing a course, please contact KPE’s Office of the Registrar and Student Services at undergrad.kpe@utoronto.ca

Additional Requirements for all Applicants

Statement of Interest

  • An online Statement of Interest, including the name and contact information of one referee, is required of all applicants to the BKin degree program. Students who do not complete the Statement of Interest will be disqualified.

  • Submit your Statement of Interest by February 15, 2024 by logging onto the Join U of T Applicant Portal.

Proof of English Facility

All applicants to the University of Toronto must be able to demonstrate proof of English facility. English is the language of instruction and examination at U of T, and success in our degree programs requires a high level of English language proficiency.

If English is not your first language (i.e. is not the first language you learned at home as a child), you will need to provide evidence of adequate English facility for admission consideration, unless you qualify for an exemption.

Step One

Apply to your desired program via the Ontario Universities' Application Centre.

  • Internal U of T transfer applicants: Apply using the online internal U of T transfer application 
    (see: Full-Time Degree Applicants Previously or Currently Registered as Students at the University of Toronto).

Step Two

Submit your profile by the deadline specified below.

  • Statement of Interest (Due February 15, 2024)
    Submit your Statement of Interest by logging onto the Join U of T Portal.

         
Step Three


Arts and Science Registration Only
Special and visiting students wishing to enrol solely in Arts & Science courses who are not KPE graduates should apply via the Woodsworth College Visiting Student Program.
 


Other Resources

Academic and Incidental Fees

Academic fees include required and specified optional academic and practica courses in the Faculty and other divisions of the University. Incidental fees include campus services and various student society fees. Full-time degree program fees during the regular academic year (September-April) are charged on a flat rate basis. Part-time, summer session and non-degree tuition fees are charged on a per course basis. Approved tuition fee and refund schedules for the current academic session are available on the Student Accounts website.

Residence

The University of Toronto is committed to helping students find appropriate and affordable housing in the greater Toronto area. Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, provided that they have indicated their interest in residence by completing the StarRez Portal application by March 31, and receive and accept an offer of admission by June 1.
