Fitness Foundations is a crash course for beginners and those looking to gain more knowledge and independence in exercising at the gym. This 6-session program (2 sessions per week for 3 weeks) will guide you through fundamental exercises and movement basics. Each session will explore different training modalities within a gym environment and teach you alternative exercises that can be done without equipment. By the end of the program, you will have the knowledge to comfortably and safely use gym equipment, perform exercises with proper technique and confidently build your own workouts to achieve your movement goals.

Highlights of the Fitness Foundations program:

  • Focused attention: 1:4 coach-to-participant ratio
  • Exercise fundamentals: Learn the 5 fundamental movement pattern categories that classify gym-based movements and build a strong foundation for any workout.
  • Proper movement: Learn the key movement features that guide the correct execution of most gym exercises.
  • Build workouts: Understand how to easily add variety to your workouts and to use the principles of Create/Challenge/Change to find the right level of for you!

ELIGIBILITY & PRICING:

  • U of T Students: Students paying incidental fees for the current term can access this program by purchasing the Fitness Foundations package. 

  • Members: Anyone who has a current Sport & Rec membership can access this programming by purchasing the Fitness Foundations package.

The Fitness Foundations package is available to purchase as an additional service to an active Sport & Rec membership. An active Sport & Rec membership or current U of T student access is required throughout the entire duration of the program. Learn more about membership offerings.

Registration for Winter Fitness Foundations will open on December 2nd, 2024.  More information to come!

 

The program requires at least 2 participants to run. If the class is unable to run, you will be notified and offered another time option.

Transfer, Waitlist, Withdrawal and Refund Policies

Transfer Policy:

Members may transfer to a different Fitness Foundations cycle offered within the same term period until registration closes. Please email sportandrec@utoronto.ca or call 416-978-3436 to complete a transfer request. 

 

Once the registration deadline has passed, members are committed to attending all 6 sessions of the program within the same program cycle (on the same days and at the same time). Members are unable to attend other Fitness Foundations sessions for which they are not registered.

Waitlist Registration:

Members can be added to the waiting list online or in-person at one of our facilities. If a spot becomes available, members will be notified by email and will have 24 hours to complete the registration. Program registrations and waitlisted spaces are non-transferable. Waitlists will close once the registration period ends. 

 

Withdrawal and Refund Policies: 

All program withdrawal requests, including a reason for the request, must be received in writing to sportandrec@utoronto.ca before the start of the second session (withdrawal deadline). Participants will be refunded the full amount less a cancellation fee of 10% for each withdrawn registration.

 

No partial refunds are issued for missed sessions unless for medical reasons. Participants withdrawing for medical reasons will receive an exemption and a partial refund for the remainder of the program. A doctor’s note is required. Notes must be received within two weeks of the date of illness. Refunds are issued in person or via phone at 416-978-3436. Learn more about the refund process here
