Welcome to a new academic year at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education! The start of a new academic year is always an exciting time, rich with potential for new experiences, friendships and learning, as well as new research opportunities and collaborations.

Our Faculty has been hard at work throughout the summer to ensure that this year will again provide U of T students with the exceptional academic and co-curricular opportunities for which our University is known around the world. As summer draws to a close and we look forward to the semester ahead, I’d like to take this opportunity to share some updates for the coming term.

Working closely with University administration and KPE staff, faculty and course instructors, the Faculty is planning for a safe, gradual return to campus this fall. While some elective courses will be delivered in-person, required courses with larger class sizes will remain online as we remain vigilant and prepared with respect to COVID-19 trends and indicators. Please review our academic updates for 2021 page for detailed information on course delivery and academic timetables for our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Our Sport & Rec division is also looking forward to welcoming back the U of T community with opportunities to enjoy sport and physical activity, as permitted at Step 3 of the province’s reopening plan. Visit our Sport & Rec page to learn more about available indoor and outdoor programming and how to get access.

As we make a gradual return to campus, we will continue to follow the provincial guidelines for public health and safety. These guidelines currently mandate proof of vaccination and indoor masking in all common-use spaces. All other requirements at Step 3 of the province’s reopening plan continue, including physical distancing and capacity limits in non-instructional spaces.

We look forward to proceeding with these re-entry plans and are ready to respond should circumstances change. As always, our decisions and actions will continue to be guided by consideration for the health and safety of all students, faculty and staff, excellence of our academic and co-curricular programs and success of all members of the KPE community.

Best wishes for a successful and productive academic year,

Gretchen Kerr,
Dean, Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education
