A message from Professor Gretchen Kerr, dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

Welcome to the 2024-25 academic year at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education!

I hope you’ve had a fantastic summer, one filled with opportunities to rest and recuperate, connect with friends and family, move and play. With summer winding down and a new academic year ahead, I’d like to take a moment to extend a warm welcome to all the new students joining us at the Faculty, and welcome back to all our returning students.

The start of a new academic year is always rich with possibility and excitement, and this year is no exception. You’re part of a Faculty with a vision to advance healthy living through inclusive movement. As you’ll see in our Faculty’s Academic Plan, we prioritize health and well-being, transformative inclusivity, a sense of discovery and achievement, and fruitful collaborations in our programs and services. I hope our vision and priorities will guide and inspire you as you embark upon your learning, research and co-curricular activities.

Our faculty and staff have been hard at work fine-tuning course offerings and research opportunities, and expanding our student support services to include initiatives such as the KINship Hub, intended to be your go-to resource for equity engagement events, and Passport to Success, a program that will support international student success. Of course, KINections, remains an invaluable one-stop shop for information on all the ways undergraduate and graduate students at KPE can connect and get involved beyond the classroom.

Our Sport & Rec team has also been busy putting our vision into practice and creating inclusive movement opportunities for the University community and beyond, including new programs coming this fall that will help you navigate exercise on your own or learn how to play a sport.

Stay tuned for more information on all these exciting new opportunities.

I hope the energy we’re all feeling carries you into a dynamic and fulfilling academic year.
