Come play on the TO Islands, in partnership with the CIE and Health & Wellness!

Join hike leader Alex with Let's Hike T.O. for a day of fun, exploration, and connection on the ever popular Toronto Islands!

This 7km hike along the southern shore of the Islands will take us from Ward all the way to Hanlans. We will see many beaches, walk along a boardwalk, visit ecological and culturally significant locations and more! Alex has some great photo opportunities planned as well as a rest at the mid-way point in our hike. Our rest stop will be in an area with a pier, places to purchase food and drinks, a beach, and a garden - bringing your own food is welcomed (and encouraged!) if you'd prefer not to purchase.

This beginner-friendly route will consist of mixed terrains (both paved an unpaved) at a relaxed pace of 3.5-4km an hour with breaks to enjoy the views, join in Islands activities, and take some photos. Total walking time is anticipated to be about 2 hours, with total hike time of about 3-3.5 hours.

We plan to end the hike on the islands - you can decide if you'd like to stay and enjoy islands amenities with pals old and new, like the beaches (with supervised swimming opportunities), parks, Centreville, bike rentals, cafes, and beyond!

Pick up and drop-off. Meet at 9.40 AM at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (9 Queen's Quay West) for registration and ferry tickets. We'll leave promptly for the islands ferry and our hike. Please leave yourself ample time to find parking or find your way from the TTC as our departure time is fixed.

We've got you covered! City-of-Toronto-operated ferry fare is included free-of-charge for participants. Ferry tickets include return fare back to Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. (We recommend you register early!) Our route will finish on the islands, and you may choose on which ferry you'd like to return to the city. Ferry schedules can be found on the City of Toronto All Ferry Schedules site.

What to bring. We encourage you to bring a water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a fully charged phone or camera for photos.

Please bring snacks and/or a lunch for the walk, rain gear or sun gear depending on the forecast.

If you plan to stay and enjoy the islands' amenities, bring what you need to enjoy (cash/payment for purchases, swim gear, etc.)!

Other notes.

The walk will be along boardwalks and paved roads, making this a nice, easy, relaxing walk.

We kindly ask participants to please leave dogs and other pets at home for this hike.

There are public washrooms and water refill stations throughout the Island. (For more specific information on washrooms and water stations, consult the City of Toronto Parks & Recreation Washrooms & Drinking Water website.)

Alex is looking forward to meeting all of you and sharing this special place with you! :)

These special hikes will leave from around the St. George Campus and will take students on a journey through local streets, green spaces, and ravines.

You're invited to come connect, learn, build community and friendships, and enjoy gentle movement outdoors together. Register today as spots are limited! Further details and reminders will be emailed to registrants before the hike.
