Paul Handley has been appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education, effective December 1, 2019. In his role as CAO, he will have strategic and operational responsibilities that engage the Faculty’s academic and non-academic mandates.

Handley brings a wealth of University of Toronto administrative experience to the Faculty, having been the CAO of the Faculty of Law since 2013, the CAO of the Division of Student Services from 2011 to 2013 and the Director of Operations at the UTM Library.

“We are very fortunate to be able to announce the appointment of someone with such a rich combination of U of T CAO experience, as well as personal experiences in KPE degree programs and co-curricular sports,” said Ira Jacobs, professor and dean at KPE.

Handley has a Bachelor of Physical Health and Education (BPHE) and a Master of Science degree from the Faculty’s programs, as well as an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.

“My undergraduate days were mostly consumed with hockey,” says Handley, who played for the Varsity Blues men’s hockey team and was an Academic All-Canadian. “That was the highlight of my university career by far. I made so many great friends during that time and I learned so much from playing hockey at that level. But, mostly I’m grateful for never having the chance to feel homesick, because I was immediately part of a team. Having that immediate social network set me up for success throughout my academics.

“It feels exciting to be back and I look forward to contributing to a Faculty that had such an instrumental role in forming my career path,” he said.

Handley will be stepping into the role of the Faculty’s CAO following the retirement of Rosanne Lopers-Sweetman, who held the position since 2009.
