Junior Blues Gymnastics Enhanced

This 10-month program offers gymnasts the opportunity to spend extra time refining their gymnastics skills. This program focuses on strength and flexibility to increase gymnasts’ overall skill level.


Prerequisites

Participants should be at a minimum of Level 6 in the CANGYM program. Please speak to your child's coach or contact Barb Brophey, 416-978-7381 if you have questions.

Athletes will be assessed to ensure they are in the proper level during the first class. If your child is not at the appropriate skill level they will be asked to leave the enhanced program. *An assessment will be held in August for those hoping to enter the program.

How do I enter the facility?
All participants require a facility access pass to enter the Athletic Centre and must use one of the authorized building entrances.

Weekend Classes
Gymnastics participants have access to the Athletic Centre through the Athletic Centre main entrance. An access pass is required for all participants at all times.

 Please ensure that you arrive with enough time to pick up an access pass and walk to the lower gym for your program start.

Monday Classes
Enter from the Harbord St. side by the bike racks. Please watch for signage and staff on the first day to direct you to the facility.

Remember that if you leave the premises for any reason and wish to re-enter thorough the main turnstiles you will need to show your green access pass every time. Again, please ensure that you leave sufficient time to anticipate lineups at the main office if you require a new card to replace a lost or forgotten card.

Where can I leave my stroller/scooter/bike?
All strollers, scooters and bikes must be kept outside the facility. Most of our hallways are fire exits and are required to be kept clear. Please remember to bring a lock for your stroller if you would like to lock it to the bike racks.

What should my child wear and bring?
Leotard or shorts and a top
No oversized clothing
No jewellery
Long hair must be tied back with an elastic; no bobbles
No shoes are worn during classes

Can classes be observed?
Please note that parents are not allowed in the gym while programs are in progress. This policy has been instituted for the safety of all participants. Please pay careful attention to the notice board outside the lower gym for upcoming events and open houses. If you would like to speak with your child's coach outside of weekend program time, please contact Barb Brophey at 416-978-7381 or barb.brophey@utoronto.ca to arrange a meeting.

In order for you to see your child in their program we will have an open house for each class over the last few weeks of the session. The open houses for the 1 hour gymnastics classes will be December 8/9 and for all the 2 and 3 hour classes it will be December 15/16 for Fall programs.

Photos are permitted on the open house weeks.

What skills are being taught?
U of T follows CANGYM; Gymnastics Canada’s National Skill Development and Evaluation program for artistic gymnastics. Children progress through Bronze, Silver and Gold levels with four badges in each level.
