PURPOSE: To study the effect of dairy and dairyfree milk alternative beverages on post-exercise protein synthesis and recovery in active youth following aerobic exercise
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
• Healthy youth (8-16 years) performing regular physical activity
• Males or females
• No allergies to dairy, soy, or almonds
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
• Six sessions (~31.5 hours total)
o Session 1: Introductory Session
- Body anthropometrics (height, weight), study consent/assent, physical activity, and health questionnaires
o Session 2: Body Composition & Fitness Assessment
- Body composition (BODPOD) to determine fat & fat-free mass (i.e., muscle and bone)
- Aerobic fitness assessment (‘beep test’)
o Sessions 3-6: Metabolic Trials
- Loughborough Intermittent Shuttle Test (LIST): a variable intensity aerobic exercise simulating activity patterns of a soccer match
- Hourly beverage consumption, breath, and urine samples
