Youth Needed for an Exercise Metabolism Research Study

PURPOSE: To study the effect of dairy and dairyfree milk alternative beverages on post-exercise protein synthesis and recovery in active youth following aerobic exercise

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
• Healthy youth (8-16 years) performing regular physical activity
• Males or females
• No allergies to dairy, soy, or almonds

WHAT’S INVOLVED?
• Six sessions (~31.5 hours total)

o Session 1: Introductory Session

  • Body anthropometrics (height, weight), study consent/assent, physical activity, and health questionnaires

o Session 2: Body Composition & Fitness Assessment

  • Body composition (BODPOD) to determine fat & fat-free mass (i.e., muscle and bone)
  • Aerobic fitness assessment (‘beep test’)

o Sessions 3-6: Metabolic Trials

  • Loughborough Intermittent Shuttle Test (LIST): a variable intensity aerobic exercise simulating activity patterns of a soccer match
  • Hourly beverage consumption, breath, and urine samples

WHERE?
• The Iovate/Muscletech Metabolism and Sports Science Lab at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
• Body composition & fitness assessment
• An opportunity to make a difference in the scientific community
Financial compensation for your time and effort ($340)
