A cup of coffee and a shared passion for basketball in Bloor West Village led to a remarkable opportunity: University of Toronto head coach Madhav Trivedi was invited by Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković to join the NBA Summer League coaching staff, writes the Toronto Star.
Since taking over as head coach of the Varsity Blues men's basketball program during the 2022-23 campaign, Trivedi has amassed an overall record of 48-41. This has included trips to the OUA postseason in two of three seasons and a return to the OUA Final Four since the program's last appearance in the semifinal round during the 1996-97 season.
Trivedi has previous experience at the national and international level, including as head coach for Team Canada at the Maccabiah Summer Games, as an advanced scout with the U20 Israeli national team, and as team manager with the Canadian national team.
The gesture reflects the Raptors’ deeper commitment not just to player development, but to nurturing Canada’s coaching talent—creating meaningful pathways for Canadian coaches like Trivedi to learn alongside NBA professionals.
