Black History Month spotlight: Lorne King

U of T Varsity Blues puts the spotlight on football alum Lorne King on the occasion of Black History Month

To commemorate Black History Month, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues will be celebrating the achievements of Black Varsity Blues athletes, highlighting their accomplishments and showcasing their impact in shaping the history of U of T.
 

In 1991, Lorne King set the all-time U of T career rushing record and to this day sits second on that list. Overall in four years, he rushed 591 times for 3,047 yards and 32 touchdowns. He was the OUAA rushing leader in 1989 and was an OUAA all-star in 1989 and 1990. He won the Johnny Copp memorial trophy as the Blues MVP in 1989 and was the first player from a Canadian university to be selected in the 1992 CFL draft.
 
He was drafted in the first round, fourth overall, by the BC Lions. He played one season with the Lions, before joining the Toronto Argonauts in 1993. 
 
King is currently the co-owner and a personal trainer at Advantage 4 Athletes.
