Master of Professional Kinesiology (MPK) students convened December 1 to share the research and findings of their capstone projects—marking the first graduating class from the program. The presentations demonstrated developing expertise in a breadth of topics from physical literacy to workplace health and cancer rehabilitation.
The afternoon included project-based poster presentations and research-informed business proposals which were the results of a combination of research, assessment, intervention, analysis and communication skills acquired throughout the program.
“This inaugural capstone conference is not only a significant programme milestone for our MPK students, but the diverse presentations also reflect our students’ developed abilities and commitment to applying research-informed knowledge to a broad range of professional challenges in this ever-evolving field,” says Professor Ira Jacobs, dean of the Faculty. Jacobs provided opening remarks for the event and watched many of the presentations. “From what I saw and heard today I am convinced that MPK graduates have developed the potential to become high impact leaders in the practice of kinesiology.”
The conference featured 14 oral presentations that outlined research-based grant proposals and business ideas and 17 poster presentations and tours that reflected a breadth of newly acquired expertise. A summary of the day is available online here.
