Healthy Females on Birth Control or with Regular Menstrual Cycles Needed for Protein Metabolism Study

Researchers at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education are conducting a study to investigate how menstrual phases and oral contraceptive use influence muscle protein synthesis and metabolism.

Who can participate?

  • Healthy females aged 18 – 40 yrs
  • Are either on the birth control pill or have regular menstrual cycles (21–35d)
  • Train regularly using weights at least 2x week

What’s involved?

  • 3–4 visits to the Iovate/Muscletech Metabolism & Sport Science Lab in the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport
  • 2 experimental trials which include:
  • Full body resistance exercise
  • Muscle, blood, urine, and breath sampling
  • Activity and diet tracking (control diets provided)
  • Body composition testing
