Dear KPE students,
I hope this note finds you well, enjoying your summer and staying healthy, active and safe. As public health guidelines related to COVID-19 continue to evolve, I thought it timely to provide an update on the 2021-22 academic year.
Last week, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities shared in a memo that it will be supporting the postsecondary education sector in a return to in-person activity this Fall. This announcement from the provincial government is welcome news.
The Faculty has been working closely with University administration as well as KPE staff, faculty and course instructors to review our Fall plans and, I want to confirm that KPE will be proceeding with our plans as communicated to date. We will stay the course for a phased return to campus this Fall, starting with academic and co-curricular activities that can be delivered to small and mid-sized groups. While some elective courses will be delivered in-person, required courses with larger class sizes will remain online as we remain vigilant and prepared with respect to COVID-19 trends and indicators. Please review our Academic Updates for 2021 page for detailed information on course delivery for our undergraduate and graduate programs. Academic timetables have been updated with mode of delivery changes made to some small and mid-sized elective courses.
As for the Winter term, I’m pleased to confirm that barring any public health and government directives to the contrary, we will fully resume in-person activity on campus as of January 2022, inclusive of learning/research activities, social activities and student support services. I strongly encourage everyone who is able to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible to enable a smooth return to in-person activities. Together, we can move closer to ending this global pandemic and having our community thrive together on campus once more.
Please continue to check the frequently updated resources available to you, including the University’s UTogether website and COVID-19 FAQ.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing you in the upcoming academic year.
Sincerely,
Gretchen Kerr, Ph.D.
