Musical novices (<3 years musical experience) needed for study on piano learning

Researchers from the TEMPO lab ('Training and Enhancement of Motor Performance Outcomes')at the University of Toronto Faculty of Kinesiology are recruiting participants for a study looking at the effect of tactile training on learning a piano playing task. Participants will be asked to press a piano key targeting various speeds. Participants may also receive brief, weak electrical stimulations to a fingertip touching a piano key at one of three different time points: with the fingertip at rest; just prior to a piano key press; during a piano key press.

This is an in-person study that will take place in the Clara Benson Building of the Athletic Centre (55 Harbord Street), University of Toronto.

Participants will be asked to attend two sessions across two consecutive days:

  • Session 1: circa 1 hour 40 minutes

  • Session 2: circa 1 hour

Who can participate?

  1. 18-60 years old

  2. Right-handed

  3. No history of neurological or motor disorders

  4. 3 years or less of musical training and/or experience over a lifetime

Participants will be compensated at a rate of $15/hr. If you are interested in taking part or have any questions, please contact Julia at
