As the summer winds down, I want to warmly welcome all of you—both new and returning students—to the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE).
KPE has been a big part of my life since I was a student here, and what continues to inspire me is the strong sense of purpose and community that defines this place. Whether you're interested in the ways physical activity and health interact from a sociocultural, biophysical or behavioural perspective, you’re joining a Faculty that explores movement in all its complexity—how it shapes the health of individuals, communities, and the environment.
You may have seen the phrase 'How we move' around our spaces. It captures what we’re all about. Movement isn’t just something we study—it’s how we connect, grow, and make change.
No matter where you're starting from, you belong here. This is a place to ask questions, discover new interests, and build lasting connections. Take advantage of the opportunities around you, and don’t be afraid to reach out—we’re here to support you.
Wishing you a great start to the year ahead,
Gretchen Kerr, Ph.D. (she/her)
Dean, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education
