A recent report by QS World University Rankings has placed the University of Toronto’s programs in kinesiology, physical education and sport and exercise sciences among the top in the world.
The QS Subject rankings are based on four measures: academic survey results, employer review survey results, citations per faculty and the H–Index, which attempts to measure both the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar. 2016 is the first year in which ‘sport and exercise science’ related subjects were evaluated.
“I was buoyed to see these results,” said Professor Ira Jacobs, dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. “This is the first time that the QS World University Rankings have identified a subject category consisting of programs that are integral to our Faculty – and doing so demonstrates the growing global relevance of kinesiology and sport and exercise sciences. I am also proud to see U of T ranked so highly. Given the quality of our professors, their research and teaching, the calibre of students who choose to study here, and U of T’s tremendous international reputation, I am not entirely surprised to see U of T’s ranking on this to be so high on the list.”
According to the QS report, published March 8, the University of Toronto holds the top 10 international ranking in six subjects, including sports-related subjects (6th), nursing (6th), anatomy & physiology (8th), geography (9th), computer science (10th) and education (10th).
The news comes a day after Times Higher Education (THE) placed U of T in a group of 53 institutions that “have the greatest chance of catching up with and surpassing the likes of Oxbridge and the Ivy League.”
