Behind every great institution is a great staff, and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education is no exception. This year’s Recognizing U staff appreciation event celebrated the many achievements of the Faculty’s approximately 750 casual staff, and 200 appointed staff and faculty members.
In addition to established internal and external recognitions, the Faculty introduced the Dean’s Staff Leadership Award – an award first known as “Lunch with the Dean.” This award singles out staff who contribute to the Faculty’s operations every day in multiple, unsung ways.
“We acknowledge these staff, who have all been nominated by their own colleagues, for making our Faculty excellent,” said Rosanne Lopers-Sweetman, the Faculty’s chief administrative officer. “It takes many individual gestures and the accumulation of a lot of completed tasks to achieve quality and successful outcomes.”
The event was also an opportunity to acknowledge QS World University Rankings, which has placed the University of Toronto’s programs in kinesiology, physical education and sport and exercise sciences sixth in the world.
“It’s no surprise the Faculty is so highly ranked in the world,” said Sharon Grandison, director of human resources. “The caliber of the faculty and staff who work here is impressive, not to mention their enthusiasm, dedication and passion for the work that they do.”
What’s next for Recognizing U?
“Each year we keep improving this unique event. It brings together all aspects of the Faculty – we often work in silos and this is an opportunity to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments,” said Lily Fan, KPE’s social committee co-chair.
Social committee co-chair Robin Waley agrees. “Events like Recognizing U encourage gratitude, appreciation, and celebration among staff across departments. I look forward to seeing how this event evolves in the future!”
