This fall, the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) will launch the KPE Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), a vital step toward realizing the vision outlined in Transformation in Motion, KPE’s Academic Plan for 2022–2027.

Led by Terry Gardiner, Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, this dedicated office centralizes staff with EDI-specific roles and builds on the existing strong foundation of EDI across the Faculty. The KPE EDI Office will lead and support initiatives to embed transformative inclusivity throughout all areas of the integrated Faculty, rooted in the belief that meaningful inclusion involves recognizing, embracing, and celebrating diverse ideas, perspectives, ways of knowing and doing.

Working with KPE students, faculty, and staff, the EDI Office will ensure consistency of EDI strategy and service delivery across the full breadth of curricular and co-curricular programs and Faculty operations, while supporting opportunities to bring the Faculty together to celebrate nationally recognized observances.

More broadly, the EDI Office will assist the Faculty in meeting institutional goals while working closely with the University’s Institutional Equity Office  and tri-campus equity leads to further the institutional commitment to delivering inclusive excellence. It will also play a central role in ensuring KPE meets its legislative responsibilities under the Ontario Human Rights Code, Bill 166, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Building on the existing strong foundation of EDI work across the Faculty, the EDI office marks an important milestone in realizing KPE's collective commitment to transformative inclusivity.
