Data for change: Embracing demographics to advance equity in sport

“You can’t manage what you don’t measure” is a popular saying in leadership circles. However, knowing what to measure to inform change is a craft altogether, write Bryan Heal, Marika Warner and Jackie Robinson of the MLSE LaunchPad.

In a blog penned for the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC), they draw on research findings from the Change the Game research project, a collaboration between the University of Toronto’s Centre for Sport Policy Studies, led by KPE Associate Professor Simon Darnell, and the MSLE Foundation.

The project aimed to clarify the value of embracing data practices concerning race and other identity factors for organizations working to achieve greater equity for youth in sport, while calling attention to the risks of not doing so.
