Refunds

Requests for refunds must be made 4 days prior to the start of a course or full fee will apply. Refund requests must be received within 4 business days before the first class. If the withdrawal deadline has passed, no refund will be issued. Refunds are for the full amount less a cancellation fee of 10% of the program cost. Participants withdrawing for medical reasons will receive a full refund for the remainder of the program. A doctor's note is required within two weeks of the date of illness.

Please allow time for the refund to be processed.

Please note that certification courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

Transfers

Participants may transfer to another program if the request is received at least 4 business days in advance. Transfers to programs at a future date must be completed by Customer and Membership Services staff.

Participants who are unsuccessful in a certification course must re-take the entire course; candidates will not be provided the opportunity to be re-examined.

All certification courses are designed for 100 per cent active participation!

Programs Offered

Please note that all classes listed below, except Babysitting, are combined with U of T student programs.

Babysitting Course, Red Cross

This course is designed for youth 11 to 15 years of age who are interested in learning about child care. Participants learn to care for babies, toddlers, preschool and school-aged children. Participants are taught age-appropriate activities, as well as safety and first aid. Specific program content can be found on the Canadian Red Cross Website.

Prerequisites: Minimum 11 years of age.

Manuals: Materials are included in course fee.

Standard First Aid and CPR-C

Be prepared to respond in an emergency by learning Standard First Aid and CPR-C. A manual is included in the fee. Punctuality and full attendance are mandatory. Participants must be 16 years or older. Certifications will be issued by the Red Cross or Lifesaving Society. Please contact junior.blues@utoronto.ca for details. Frequently Asked Questions - Certifications and Workshops

How do I enter the facility?
A Facility Access Pass (green pass) is required for entry to the building for courses that are longer than one day. This card can be picked up in the main office at the Athletic Centre before the first class.

For the Babysitting course, the instructor will meet candidates approximately 5 minutes before the course starts in the main lobby to guide them to the room where the course is being facilitated.

What do I need to know/bring?

  • Remember to bring pen and paper to the first class.
  • Dress in comfortable clothes that you can move in easily.
  • Manuals are provided during the course.
  • All certification courses are designed for 100 per cent active participation! 
  • Please bring proof of all course prerequisites for the first day. All prerequisites must be met before the start of the course, and will be checked by the instructor.
  • A full lunch, water bottle and nut-free snacks.

Babysitting

  • A signed note from a child's parent must be provided in order for a child to be able to leave on their own for lunch and/or to leave at the end of the course.
  • Participants are supervised during lunch time.
  • A doll or stuffed animal to practice diapering and other skills with.
  • Any extra diapers from home to use would be greatly appreciated.

What skills will be taught?
Certification courses teach and evaluate skills as set by the certifying organization. First aid courses may be either Lifesaving Society or Canadian Red Cross courses.

All certification courses are pass/fail.  We reserve the right to recommend that students not attempt the exam if they have not attended/participated fully or are not prepared for the exam for any reason.

These courses consist of only classroom time. Classes may be offered in either the Athletic Centre or Goldring Centre.
