Welcome to the 2026–27 academic year at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education! I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer filled with opportunities to rest, connect and move.
Whether you’re a returning student back for another year of study or a new student starting an exciting chapter of your life, I’m looking forward to seeing you in our spaces, classrooms and around campus this year.
In my time as a student, faculty member and now dean at KPE, I’ve learned that the start of every academic year brings new and exciting opportunities. You’re part of a Faculty that prioritizes health and well-being, inclusivity, discovery and achievement, and collaboration, with a vision to advance healthy living through inclusive movement.
As you begin or continue a new academic year, I want you to know that we are committed to providing you with an exceptional student experience — both inside and outside the classroom. At KPE, you will learn from outstanding professors and educators who are leaders in their fields and who are deeply committed to your learning and development. But your experience here is about much more than what happens in a classroom. It is about discovering new ideas, pursuing your interests, building meaningful relationships, and finding opportunities to grow as a student and as a member of our community.
One of the things I value most about KPE is our strong sense of community. We are a Faculty where people know and support one another, and where students are an important part of our collective identity. Whether you are connecting with classmates, getting involved in student organizations and activities, engaging with faculty and staff, participating in research or experiential learning, or taking advantage of the many opportunities available across the university, I encourage you to find your place within our community. These connections can enrich your time at KPE in ways that extend well beyond your academic experience.
We are equally committed to ensuring that you have the support you need to succeed and thrive. KPE offers a range of academic, personal and well-being supports designed to help you navigate university life. The Office of the Registrar and Student Services is your go-to for student support, and KINections is the one-stop shop for KPE students to connect and get involved outside the classroom. Please make use of these resources and reach out when you need guidance, encouragement or simply someone to talk to. Your success and well-being matter to us. Ask questions, discover new interests, build connections and don’t be afraid to reach out — we’re here to support you with whatever you need. I hope your time with us is filled with learning, discovery, connection and experiences that stay with you long after you graduate.
Wishing you a successful and fulfilling academic year,
Gretchen Kerr, Ph.D. (she/her)
