16-18 year old elite or competitive athletes for a qualitative study

The purpose of the research is to discuss athletes’ experiences in sport, with an emphasis on talking about concussions. Athletes with or without a history of concussion are both welcome to participate. This study has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Toronto.

Eligible participants:

  • 16-18 years old, any gender
  • Participate in competitive sport at the highest or second-highest level (this includes club athletes, or any provincial/national athletes)
  • Have been playing/competing for 5 years
  • Train for 5 hours a week or more (during the competitive season)

This is a qualitative study, so the process includes meeting for an interview, which is usually 25-60 minutes and the possibility of a follow-up interview, which can be in-person or over the phone. Athletes are compensated with a gift card and up to 5 hours towards their required high school volunteer hours.
